Conflict can be complex. Sometimes people need a conversation. Sometimes they need distance, preparation, a way to communicate indirectly, or a structured process for addressing concerns and their impact.
Safe Mediation provides flexible conflict-resolution, restorative, and accountability services for individuals, families, organizations, communities, and other people affected by difficult situations.
We do not assume that everyone needs to meet, agree, reconcile, or restore a relationship. We begin by understanding the situation and identifying what form of support, if any, may be appropriate.
Assessment & Process Design
When the appropriate way forward is not yet clear, we can begin with an assessment.
We consider the concerns and goals involved, relevant relationships and power dynamics, safety and readiness, existing legal or organizational processes, and the perspectives of the people involved. We then help identify possible next steps.
These may include mediation, individual preparation or coaching, facilitated or indirect communication, restorative or accountability work, referral to another professional, or no further process at that time.
Mediation & Facilitated Dialogue
We facilitate structured conversations between people experiencing conflict, communication breakdown, or difficult decisions.
Depending on the circumstances, this may involve:
- direct mediation or facilitated conversations;
- individual preparation before joint conversations;
- co-mediation;
- indirect or written communication where direct contact is not appropriate; and
- development of practical agreements or communication arrangements.
Participation is voluntary, and no one is required to reconcile, forgive, agree, or restore a relationship.
Restorative & Accountability Processes
We support structured processes for situations involving concerns about conduct, impact, responsibility, relationships, or harm.
The process may explore what happened from different perspectives, the impact on those involved, responsibility and accountability, what people need going forward, and whether meaningful forms of repair or change are possible.
Processes can involve direct dialogue, indirect communication, individual work, facilitated responses, or broader stakeholder engagement. Direct contact between participants is not required.
Safe Mediation facilitates these processes independently. We do not investigate allegations or determine guilt, legal liability, or whose account is legally correct.
Conflict Coaching & Individual Support
Not every conflict requires a joint process.
We work individually with people who want to understand a difficult situation, prepare for an important conversation, consider how to respond to conflict or feedback, or communicate more effectively.
Support may include preparation, communication strategy, role-play, perspective-taking, boundary setting, and exploring possible ways forward.
Feedback & Concern Processes
Safe Mediation can provide an independent channel through which people can raise concerns, provide feedback, or request dialogue.
For organizations, professionals, and communities, we can design and facilitate structured feedback processes and dedicated Feedback Portals.
Depending on the circumstances, this can provide a confidential route for receiving concerns, support appropriate responses, identify possibilities for dialogue or further intervention, and strengthen ongoing accountability and communication.
Stakeholder & Community Processes
Some conflicts extend beyond two people.
Where appropriate, we work with families, teams, organizations, communities, professionals, and other relevant stakeholders to understand different perspectives, coordinate communication, and design processes suited to more complex situations.
This may include facilitated meetings, restorative processes, community dialogue, structured consultation, communication protocols, or other tailored approaches.
Training & Workshops
We provide customized training and workshops in areas including conflict resolution, communication, mediation, restorative approaches, accountability, and constructive feedback.
Programs can be designed for organizations, professional teams, communities, or other groups.
How We Work
There is no single process that is right for every conflict.
Our work is independent, trauma-informed, participant-centered, and responsive to safety, readiness, power dynamics, and the circumstances of each situation.
We may work directly or indirectly, with one person or several people, and in collaboration with other independent professionals where appropriate.
We do not pressure people into mediation or direct contact. We help determine what is realistically and safely possible while preserving the autonomy of everyone involved.
Not sure which service fits your situation?
